I was looking into a tow hitch for the WRX for bikes as well. It has a 200 lb tongue limit and I couldn't see the Civic being much different from that. Although I guess your not moving so it wouldn't be bad.

pick up a tow hitch grill while your at it. Just make sure it swing far enough away from the car so you don't melt anything.

an excellent point, tossing a few mountain bikes on would be no issue, but me and the wife chilling by the river might... so get a mount for her Rav4 you say? :D

yeah, don't forget that tongue limit is measured at the hitch and that leverage increases your tongue weight pretty quick.
